CHILDREN
Play, visual art and story telling are the most direct and natural forms of self expression used by children. If we take the time to look into the windows of their world, we can better understand how they are experiencing life around them.
Translating feelings into words sometimes needs to be facilitated, like when emotions are big, layered and/or tangled. Creating a safe space for play and other forms of self expression, helps children understand their feelings better. Having a stronger awareness of what is going on in their hearts and minds can reduce the impact of negative feelings on young people and help them feel more calm and less anxious or sad. Learning new coping skills as well as strengthening the skills we already have is a critical element of working with people of all ages.

ADOLESCENTS
Adolescents are past the stage of being children and yet they are not quite adults. This in between stage of life is complex because teenagers have a strong drive to be independent but are still reliant on the adults around them to meet many of their needs. An amazing thing is happening with these young people though, as their identities are evolving and they are becoming able to understand complex relationchips and think very deeply about their world. Yet, because of the typical push-pull between adolescents and their caregivers, family relationships can get very complicated during this time. For teenagers, having an objective person to talk to can be immensely helpful because they need to get their thoughts and feelings out verbally in order to sort through them and look at them from a more rational perspective.

PARENTS
Parents of kids and teens are working to do the very best they can given the multitude of pressures that they face. The process of therapy offers an opportunity to focus on the connection between parent and child/teen to uncover needs and motivations. As a part of that journey we often discover that the goals of both parent and child are very similar. Finding their way to a place of connection opens new possibilities for productive change.

ADULTS
"Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know" are the simple words of Pema Chodron. This phrase expresses a critical part of the healing process. There are important questions that we need to ask ourselves in order to get a different perspective on our issues, whether it is a major life change or an important loss that we are grieving or a difficult relationship we are trying to repair. The primary element in my work with clients is to create a safe place to ask those questions and to partner with you in search for answers.
SERVICES AND FEES
The process of looking for the right therapist is important. In addition to a practitioner's training and experience, you will also be looking at how well you connect with a therapist in terms of style and personality. I am happy to talk by phone or communicate via email if you would like to find out more about my services. I also offer a 30 minute free consultation meeting where we can talk about what your current concerns are and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. Whether in person or by phone, you can get to know my approach and style of working with clients so that you can decide if my approach and style would be the right fit for you.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and my fees are $160 per session. I offer a limited sliding scale, based on financial need. I do not currently take insurance, but I am glad to create a superbill that clients can send in to their insurance company for potential reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider to learn what their policy is regarding out of network providers. I can accept payment by cash, check and credit card.
